China to launch PM 2.5 study in 10 cities

China's disease control authority will carry out a study to find out how PM 2.5, or particles smaller than 2.5 micrometers in diameter, affect people's health in 10 cities that recently saw the worst pollution of that kind.
PM 2.5 is considered extremely hazardous to health as the particles go deeper into the lungs than larger particles in the air.

BEIJING - Beijing Mayor Wang Anshun on Wednesday said the capital will work hard to cool down rapid urban expansion in order to address traffic congestion, pollution and resource scarcity.
"We will make efforts to control Beijing's scale through economic, legal and administrative means," Wang said, without elaborating his plan.

Homework rules begin new easier term

Eight new measures introduced to ease the burden on primary and middle school students in Beijing have been rolled out as the spring semester gets underway, Beijing Youth Daily reported Thursday.
At Chaoyang Experimental Primary School, students no longer have homework on mathematics as it is done online in 15 minutes at the end of class.
